Why is XPS insulation used?

XPS insulation offers a range of useful benefits in building and construction projects:

XPS saves energy and reduces carbon dioxide emissions

The closed-cell structure of XPS endows it with very high values of thermal resistance, making it an extremely efficient insulating material. As a result, XPS helps save energy in buildings and reduce CO2 emissions. Read more about XPS’s contribution to the energy efficiency of buildings.

XPS solves technically challenging applications

The outstanding compressive resistance of XPS makes it ideal for use in challenging applications such as foundation and perimeter insulation, highly-loaded floors and inverted roofs, as well as in cavity walls and pitched roofs.

XPS maintains its performance, even in wet environments

Water penetration adversely affects the thermal performance of insulating materials. However, XPS’s closed-cell structure provides it with best-in-class water resistance and freeze-thaw resistance, ensuring that its superior insulating performance is maintained, even in wet environments.

XPS complies with fire safety standards

The incorporation of a small amount of a flame-retardant into the XPS polymer matrix enables the manufacture of XPS board that complies with fire performance Euroclass E to EN 13501-1 of the European harmonised reaction to fire test and classification system.
